In a major case of frozen food smuggling, the Gongbei Customs' Zhongshan Customs Anti-smuggling Branch recently seized frozen food suspected of being smuggled into China. Three people were arrested at the scene and 847 tons of frozen food were seized.

This is the largest case on smuggled frozen food on a single ship seized by Gongbei Customs in recent years.

Reports state that on the evening of November 17, the Zhongshan Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau seized the "Hai'an 2266" cargo ship suspected of smuggling frozen food into the northwest waters of Dachan Island in the Pearl River Estuary. Three crew members were arrested on the ship and 32 forty-foot containers with 847 tons of frozen food including chicken feet were seized instantly.

Investigators said that the frozen food had no quarantine permits for imported animals and plants and relevant certificates issued by official agencies of exporting countries or regions. According to the outer packaging, some of the frozen food came from countries and regions where animal epidemics prevail and are prohibited from import to China.

Statistics show that by November 20 this year, Gongbei Customs has filed 56 cases of frozen food smuggling and seized a total of 8,146 tons of various frozen food.
