Guo Wenhai, secretary of the Zhongshan Municipal Party Committee, visited Tsuihang New District (THND) on November 16 to inspect the progress on the construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge and Tsuihang New District and the development of the biomedical industry. Zhongshan mayor Xiao Zhanxin joined the inspection.

From the landing point on Ma'an Island, the under-construction Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge looks like a dragon winding across the Lingdingyang Bay. The world-class cluster engineering project of "bridge, artificial island, tunnel and underground interchange" will be completed and open to traffic in 2024, connecting Zhongshan with Shenzhen 24 kilometers away. Guo Wenhai looked into the planning and design of the bridge and spoke with the construction team. He underlined the safety and quality control of the project, and the desire to build a landmark project that will stand the test of time.

At the Zhongshan Institute for Drug Discovery of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guo Wenhai talked with the head of the institute and the researchers about its R&D achievements and development goals. He encouraged the institute to strengthen its cooperation with the biomedical industry, speed up the implementation of scientific research, and play a leading role in the development of Zhongshan's biomedical industry in becoming an industrial cluster valued at over 100 billion yuan.

Guo Wenhai also visited the Fintech New Town and the Administrative Committee of Tsuihang New District, where he listened to an introduction of the overall planning, functional layout, land resources and project introduction of THND and had a discussion with leaders of the district..

Guo Wenhai stressed that with the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, Tsuihang New District will play an important role as Zhongshan's bridge tower with Shenzhen, Hong Kong and the east bank of the Pearl River, and will stand at the forefront of urban integration between Zhongshan and Shenzhen. Tsuihang New District will also become Zhongshan's main front area to participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and shoulder the responsibility of leading and serving Zhongshan's high-quality development.
