In 1883, Sun Yat-sen at the age of 17 returned home after finishing his studies in Honolulu, USA. He brought back a tamarind seed and planted it in front of his house. The seed flourished and grew into a big tree.

A typhoon knocked down the tree in 1931, but fortunately, new shoots sprouted from the broken branches, and later the tree grew again.

Now, the tree is nearly 140 years old. People describe it as a "living relic" in Sun Yat-sen's former residence.

May to August every year is the flowering period of the tamarind tree. The beautiful flowers on the branches always catch visitors' eyes.

A series of cultural and creative products, created by the Museum of Dr Sun Yat-sen and Zhongshan Publishing, features the tamarind flowers.
