With a pair of scissors and a pad of red paper, Liang Jiekang, a 77-year-old returned overseas Chinese, has been devoted to paper-cutting for decades. He had created more than 5,000 works themed on folk customs, core socialist values, and etc. Through paper-cutting, he has built a bridge of cultural communication among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as a service harbor for residents.

Liang has won many national and provincial awards, and he has been honored with such titles as national outstanding returned overseas Chinese, Guangdong's outstanding literary and art volunteer, Zhongshan's moral model, Zhongshan's top 10 citizen, and good samaritan of Zhongshan. This year, he is named "Zhongshan's Role Model".

Liang's paper-cutting studio is situated in East District's Huayuan Community. After retiring in 2006, he tours around Zhongshan with a camera to seek inspiration and materials, trying to reproduce the cityscape with paper-cutting. "Since returning to Zhongshan, I have witnessed the changes of my hometown and the development of the times. I just want to record them with paper-cutting," Liang said.

To repay the society, Liang joins hands with cultural departments, communities and schools to offer over 800 public lectures, offers assistance in the establishment of many charitable organizations, such as "Jianyi Club" and the parent-child paper-cutting service team, and provides public services to over 20,000 residents.
