Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is located in the center of the downtown area of Zhongshan. It was built with a donation of HK$10 million by Mr Kwok Tak-seng, a Zhongshan compatriot in Hong Kong. The construction started on February 1, 1982 and completed in April of 1983. It was officially open to the public on November 12, 1983.

The appearance of the Memorial Hall is grand, majestic, magnificent and splendid, with a height of 35 meters. It covers an area of over 30,000 square meters, with a building area of 8,400 square meters. The buildings feature national style and the era touch.

The Memorial Hall is of a combined duplex structure, divided into the front, middle and rear parts. The front part is a three-storey building. On its first floor, there is a lobby, with a white marble bust of Sun Yat-sen placed in the middle. On the second floor, the Historical Exhibition of Revolutionary Records of Sun Yat-sen is on both sides. On the third floor, three pavilion-shaped structures are arranged in the pattern of the Chinese character of mountain (山). The eight-corner pavilion in the middle is a VIP lounge which can accommodate over 100 people. The four-corner pavilions on both sides are rest rooms for guests.

In the middle part of the hall, there is a large modern theater with a capacity of 1,477 spectators, which is equipped with a central air-conditioning system, a rotatable stage and a music pool with three levels of lift.

On both sides of the Memorial Hall, there are winding paths rendered by garden scenery. In front of the Memorial Hall, there is a wide lawn.

The Memorial Hall houses nearly 8,000 pieces of cultural relics, mainly including the historical and revolutionary relics, along with cultural relics of overseas Chinese unearthed in Zhongshan.
