From January 1 to 3 this year, nearly 200,000 citizens in Zhongshan went to cinemas to celebrate the new year. The total box office figures in Zhongshan during the holiday reached 5.933 million yuan.

On New Year's Day, the box office numbers in Zhongshan reached 2.873 million yuan, far exceeding last year's 1.915 million yuan.

"The latest films during New Year holiday were of higher quality than those released this time last year. Intense and thrilling films 'Shock Wave 2' and 'The Rescue' were the most popular movies, mainly for adult audiences," said the head of Zhongshan Zhongying Wenhua Film City Management Co Ltd.

Some industry insiders believed the box office during the New Year holiday shows that the Chinese film market, which was suspended for 178 days in 2020 due to COVID-19, is recovering.
