Demolishing illegal buildings to protect the ‘mother river

Zhongshan Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor Jiao Lansheng found serious water contamination problems occurred in river sections in Shaxi, Dachong and South District when he was on an investigation boat trip on Qijiang River. He required special treatment immediately and apparent achievements by the 2018 Spring Festival. 

The water improvement work of key sections of Qijiang River is now in progress. Within 100m of the river banks, all illegal buildings have to be removed.

On the morning of November 7, the reporter joined the inspection organized by urban management officers and environmental law enforcement personnel to understand the latest progress.

According to Xiao Hongyue, Deputy Director of Dachong Urban Management Bureau, law enforcement personnel in Dachong had identified 43 illegal constructions, which involve an area of 222,806.9 square meters. At present, about 11,737.38 square meters illegal construction area had been demolished.
