On the afternoon of November 22, 2017, the 12-year-old Zhongshan “Teenager with Virtues” Xi Jiaqi and the 81-year-old “Zhongshan Good Man” Ju Xiangzheng received applause from other participants when stepping into the venue of Zhongshan Spiritual Civilization Work Conference. The young and aged models represented the Zhongshan’s value orientation and demonstrated the civilization atmosphere of the “National Civilized City”.

During the National Spiritual Civilization Construction Commendation Conference held on November 17, 2017, Zhongshan was awarded the “National Civilized City” title for the fifth time.

In 2017, the municipal government took “civilized city establishment” as the orientation in the pursuit of economic and social development and improvement of the city’s level of civilization, and as the main platform of benefaction to people. The government introduced policies to cope with various issues in terms of food safety, medical treatment, traffic order, environmental quality, and administrative service. The government also promoted civilization construction in old districts, corners and streets, markets and suburban areas.

A “civilized city” can not be developmed without collective efforts of all citizens. The spirit of a city lies not in the high buildings nor the slogans hung on the walls, but in the “civilization power” belongs to the people.
