With the concentrated birth of the second child and an aging population, structural contradictions in the housekeeping industry have become increasingly prominent since employees are generally aged and of low educational background, according to the special seminar on "Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Housekeeping Industry in Zhongshan City" held last Thursday.

It is thus imperative to explore a way of promoting its healthy development by formulating industry standards and stepping up industry trainings.

There are presently about 1,800 registered housekeeping service providers of different sizes in Zhongshan, including 270 large ones that are mainly distributed in East District, Shiqi District, West District, Xiaolan Town and Torch Development Zone.

So far, Zhongshan has about 37,000 housekeeping employees, aged between 40 and 55, who are hourly workers, baby-sitters, maternity matrons, and cleaners. About 70 percent of them come from Guangdong and Guangxi.
