The Qijiang River water quality has been greatly improved.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently announced the surface water assessment results of the sectional water environment quality of cities at and above the prefecture level from January to June 2019. Zhongshan City ranked 4th in China and 1st in Guangdongin in water environment quality improvement, with a 47.8% change range. This was another success after been ranked 3rd in China and 1st in Guangdong in the first quarter.

According to reports, the 7 sections in Zhongshan for the national assessment are the Buzhou Section of Modaomen Waterway, the Zhuhai Bridge Section, the Hongqili Section, the Zhongshan Port Wharf Section of Hengmen Waterway, the Cuiheng Hotel Section of Lanxi River, the Pansha Bridge Section of Pansha Flood Discharge Channel, and the Heshuikou Section of the Zhongxin River. From January to June 2019, the average comprehensive water quality of each section met the assessment criteria set in the Zhongshan Water Pollution Control Objective Responsibility Statement.

In 2018, Zhongshan invested 42.86 million yuan in the water resources protection projects and 10 million yuan in river water quality monitoring. A total of 249.63 million yuan was allocated for ecological compensation. Zhongshan also plans to invest more than 50 billion yuan in water pollution control in the next 3 years.

The Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment (ZSBEE) entrusted a third-party monitoring institution to carry out quarterly water quality monitoring covering 1,041 rivers in the city. Water environmental quality ranking of each town and district would be released on ZSBEE's official website and WeChat account on a regular basis. This will ensure the implementation of the main responsibility through normalized supervision.

Furthermore, Zhongshan invested 350 million yuan in building a province's leading advanced automatic monitoring platform for river water quality. A total of 259 automatic monitoring stations were set up in the main rivers of 15 river basins in Zhongshan to comprehensively monitor the river water quality in real-time.
