The head of the Zhongshan Health Bureau visited ZSNEWS.cn on July 18 to present the bureau's work with the theme "Examine Zhongshan, Improve the Masses' Health Awareness", and the work concerning the health of senior citizens and occupational health supervision.

Presently, the registered population of Zhongshan is 1.78 million, with about 280,600 inhabitants over 60 years old, accounting for 15.76% of the total registered population. Generally, the next 15 years will see a rapid aging of Zhongshan population.

This year, Zhongshan will apply 200 family beds for specific elderly people, with a maximum subsidy of 10,000 yuan per bed, which is mainly granted for door-to-door service offered by medical staff and self-paid medical expenses of specific elderly people, providing them with door-to-door standard medical care and alleviating their financial burdens.

In addition, the Zhongshan Health Bureau will promote the sustainable development of the "Yinling Ankang Action" to ensure a 100% overall coverage of insurance programs in Zhongshan, and vigorously encourage individuals or families to take out the insurance, and strive to make the self-pay coverage rates reach 25% and even 30%.

Zhongshan will further promote the national-level "Hospice Care" pilot, and prepare to select the second batch of Zhongshan medical institutions for the pilot in 2019 to provide services for the elderly in need.

Zhongshan will gradually achieve full coverage of health record management. Meanwhile, Zhongshan will also improve the long-term medical service mechanism with the provision of regular visits, medication guidance, health management, and green channels for medical treatment for the elderly.

Besides, Zhongshan has a well-developed manufacturing industry. It is estimated that 12,000 enterprises and 300,000 workers may have been exposed to occupational diseases.

Improving the service level of occupational disease prevention and treatment is a priority in 2019. Now, 5 occupational health examination service institutions are ready to be operational in 2019, and the research on feasibility of establishing the Zhongshan Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment Department in Zhongshan No.2 People's Hospital is on-going.
