The Zhongshan Education and Sports Bureau (ZSESB) held a dialogue for the approval of suggestions and proposals on July 22. At the dialogue, ZSESB reported the handling of this year's suggestions and proposals, and invited some deputies to the Municipal People's Congress and members of the municipal CPPCC committee to present their views on the development of education in Zhongshan.

Li Jiaying, Secretary of the Zhongshan Education Working Committee and Director of ZSESB, said that Zhongshan will build two high-level universities, namely, Zhongshan University of Science and Technology (ZUST) and Xiangshan University.

The applications for the construction of ZUST were submitted to the Department of Education of Guangdong Province in mid-June 2019, and a preparation and construction office was established. Great efforts are made to recruit talents, excellent teachers, as well as chancellors, teaching and research teams.

According to the plan, ZUST will be built as a university oriented at science and technology majors and will also include literature and business majors. Upon its completion, ZUST will serve as the "talent pool" and "scientific innovation engine" across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Consequently, in terms of disciplines, efforts will be made to satisfy the industrial needs of the Greater Bay Area.

The construction of Xiangshan University has once again been put into the agenda.

The deputies present at the dialogue discussed with ZSESB about university construction.

Statistics reveal that a total of 107 proposals have been handled by ZSESB in 2019. These proposals reflect the promotion of the construction of public primary and secondary schools, the development of public and general kindergartens, the growth of vocational education, the focus on the development of high-level universities, and the propelling of the development of sports.
