The CPPCC Zhongshan Committee and the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Research Association (SSCLRA) signed their "Cooperation Agreement on Expanding Humanistic Exchanges" on August 21. The agreement aims at promoting research cooperation on Sun Yat-sen culture and Soong Ching Ling culture in Zhongshan and Shanghai while strengthening the "Humanistic Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" and "Shanghai's Cultural Brand".

According to the agreement, the CPPCC Zhongshan Committee and the SSCLRA will establish 3 systems in information exchanges, joint conferences, and communication & cooperation. In the future, both sides will integrate research sources concerning Sun Yat-sen culture and Soong Ching Ling culture. Furthermore, they will both engage in deeper connectivity by accessing cultural material collections, sharing in research focuses, activities, and projects planning, and by joining in cultural practices and communication.

Zhongshan has been closely connected with Shanghai during its long history. Xiangshan compradors and four major department stores were a glorious sight in old Shanghai. Zhongshan celebrities, such as Zheng Guanying, Zheng Junli, Ruan Lingyu and Xiao Youmei, are prestigious at the Huangpu River bank. Sun Yat-sen even regarded Shanghai as a vital base for national rejuvenation.
