Zhongshan has recently released the results of one of its largest sleep surveys.

Yang Minqi and Zhou Qian from the Center for Post-doctoral Studies spent four months on investigating insomnia among more than 12,000 people in Zhongshan. The findings were recently published in the Chinese Journal of Public Health.

The results showed that 10.02 percent of adults in Zhongshan were diagnosed with insomnia. Among them, women accounted for 11.5%, which was higher than that of men (8.0%).

With increased age, residents suffer from insomnia more easily.

The study also found that in modern society, the more children a family has, the more stress it will bear, which often leads to more severe insomnia symptoms in individuals.

Doctors and non-regular workers suffer more severe insomnia symptoms than other occupational groups.

Besides, separated and married people suffered less severe insomnia symptoms than divorced and reunited people.
