Good news came from the construction site of Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway in Nantou Town on August 14. The viaduct on the north main line of Nantou was successfully closed, which has laid a solid foundation for the completion of the bridge in September this year and the opening of Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway in 2021.

The viaduct is an important hub for Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway and the roads in Zhongshan's Nantou Town, with a total length of 1,730 meters. The closure site is the midspan of the suspended beam of the third Shenjiao Sluice on the left side of the bridge, spanning the two gates of Shenjiao Sluice and flood discharge sluice of Guizhou Waterway. It is a critical control project of phase three of the Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway with a wide cross section and high-risk construction.

Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway is an important "infill line" for the expressway network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which connects eight expressways, including Jiangmen-Zhaoqing Expressway and Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway. The total length of the project is about 67 kilometers, with two-way six lanes. The first and second phases of the project completed about 44 kilometers, which opened to traffic in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The third phase of the project is 23.3 kilometers long and is expected to open to traffic in 2021.
