Zhongshan makes effective defensive measures for Higos

Higos, the 7th typhoon of the year, made landfall in the coastal area of Jinwan District, Zhuhai around 6 am on August 19. Affected by the typhoon and its circulation, from 8 pm on August 18 to 6 am on August 19, there was heavy rain in Zhongshan, and force 13 winds were recorded in Shenwan Town.

All departments at all levels in Zhongshan have been working together to effectively protect against the storm and minimize disaster losses.

In order to ensure sufficient manpower and material resources for emergency rescue operations and disaster relief during the typhoon, Zhongshan organized various emergency response detachments and rescue teams of more than 30,000 people, and set up 198 indoor emergency shelters with sufficient daily supplies across the city.

During the typhoon, a total of 3,172 people in dangerous areas and 29,964 people in dangerous buildings and construction sites were evacuated, 3 fishermen were helped ashore and 534 fishing boats returned to the harbor for shelter.

As of the evening of August 18, no casualties were reported in Zhongshan.
