September 5, 2020 marked the 5th "China Charity Day". When speaking of Zhongshan people's philanthropic traditions, the well-known "Zhongshan Charity Parade" activity has to be mentioned.

In recent years, the average number of participants in Zhongshan Charity Parade-related activities, such as charity bazaars, evening parties and parades in towns and districts, has approached 500,000, and the number of donors has exceeded one million. Over the past 33 years, the accumulated donations have exceeded 1.6 billion yuan, which have been used in more than 110 public welfare projects in hospitals, schools and nursing homes. In the past 6 years, Red Cross societies at all levels have been mobilized to help more than 92,000 people in need and have distributed about 200 million yuan of aid funds to continuously solve a number of livelihood issues.

February 8, 2020 was supposed to be the day for the 2020 Zhongshan Charity Parade. However, due to the COVID-19, this year's event was not held as scheduled.

Instead of conducting an in person event, a special parade was held online. As of August 31, 2020, the Zhongshan Branch Red Cross Society of China has raised a special fund of more than 55 million yuan in money and materials to fight against COVID-19, which had been used in the anti-epidemic work in Hubei Province, Zhongshan City, and other places at home and abroad to help tide over the difficulties, and once again demonstrate the spirit of fraternity and responsibility of Zhongshan citizens and Zhongshan-based enterprises in the face of major disasters.
