Phase III of the Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway (GZJ Expressway) passed the acceptance check on December 16. It will open to traffic on December 28 (except for the expressway-railway joint construction section). The whole GZJ Expressway is planned to be completed and open to traffic in 2021.
The GZJ Expressway is 67 kilometers long and passes through Guangzhou, Jiangmen, Zhongshan, and Foshan. In the future, it will be connected to 6 existing expressways (including Foshan-Kaiping Expressway, Jiangmen-Zhaoqing Expressway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway, Dongsha-Xinlian Expressway, Jiangmen-Zhongshan Expressway, Guangdong-Foshan-Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway) and 2 expressways in Zhongshan (the West Ring Expressway and East Outer Ring Expressway) that are under construction.
Phase III of the GZJ Expressway is about 23 kilometers long east-west. It starts from the Tianlian Interchange, passes through Zhongshan's Xiaolan, Dongfeng, Nantou and Huangpu towns, and ends in Dagang Town, Nansha District, Guangzhou City. It is intersected or connected with many important arteries such as Huancheng North Road and New Dongfu Road. It has 6 lanes in both directions, with a designed speed limit of 100 km/h.
Fourteen toll stations in total are built for the whole GZJ Expressway, 5 of which were built on the Phase III section and 4 in Zhongshan.
