Due to the extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people returning home dropped significantly during the Spring Festival this year. About 689,200 passengers traveled from Zhongshan from February 11 to 17, up 22.07% from a year earlier.
This figure included 602,100 passengers via roads and highways, down 26.33%, some 84,900 via railway, up 57.62% and 2,100 via waterways, down 83.73%.
In terms of road transportation, there were 9,000 cross-provincial passengers, a decrease of 62.31% (main destinations: Hunan, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Jiangxi), 27,300 intercity passengers, a year-on-year decrease of 76.96% (main destinations: Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, and Shenzhen), and 565,900 intra-city (including cross-township buses and charter buses within Zhongshan) passengers, a yearly decrease of 16.2%.
Zhongshan also received 100,700 railway passengers and 12,100 bus passengers.
During the Spring Festival, passengers mainly traveled short distances to visit relatives and friends. Passenger volume peaked on February 15 (January 4 of the lunar calendar), while the number of returning travelers peaked on February 17.
