Baskets of neatly growing enokitake kept coming out along the conveyor belt in the packaging workshop of Zhongshan Yuanzishan Fungus Industry Co Ltd located at the foot of a mountain in South District, Zhongshan City. With the help of three-dimensional cultivation technology, hundreds of tons of enokitake were produced in this company and transported to the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong and Macao markets every day.
At the end of last year, Yuanzishan was selected as one of the 16 Zhongshan-based "Guangdong Key Leading Agricultural Enterprises". In its seven years of operation, Yuanzishan has realized an annual output value of over 100 million yuan with its single production category of enokitake. Founder Lai Yaping and his brother adopted industrial pattern to do agriculture and paved the way for large-scale development.
Before entering the business, Lai Yaping was a professional manager in Zhongshan's logistics industry. His younger brother graduated from Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering in the late 1990s and worked in factories to grow fungi.
In 2012, with their respective industry experiences, the brothers both resigned and started their own business together. "Modern agriculture must innovate its mode." They adopted industrial automation mode to grow enokitake, reaching a production capacity of 20 tons in the first year.
In 2015, they acquired an edible fungus company owned by a listed company in Dongguan, and their company's annual production capacity then exceeded 50 tons. At present, the total production capacity of their two factories has exceeded 100 tons.
In October 2018, their company was listed on the NEEQ market.
At present, a tide of brand awareness is sweeping the agricultural sector. Lai Yaping plans to build a third production workshop and carry out research and learning tours as well as industrial tours in order to create a consumer brand of enokitake.
