On the morning of July 8, guided by Liang Hui, an expert of "rice-shrimp co-culture" technique, Zhongshan Daily reporters walked into the "rice-shrimp co-culture" experimental demonstration base in Nanlang Town. Cooperative farmers at the base are catching Australian freshwater lobsters that are already available for sale.

In recent years, "rice-shrimp co-culture" has become a popular term. Traditional "rice-shrimp co-culture" is mainly based on crayfish cultivation, while this demonstration base mainly cultures a new variety of Australian freshwater lobsters, which win the favor of farmers for its miscellaneous diet, fast growth, large size and high dressing percentage.

"The net profit for this 5-mu (about 3,333 square meters) base alone is about 150,000 yuan a year, excluding labor and other costs." Liang Hui said.

The "rice-shrimp co-culture" model is to be promoted throughout Zhongshan City and even Guangdong Province. Tanzhou Town is now building a "rice-shrimp co-culture" demonstration park of more than 1,000 mu (about 666,666 square meters).
