"I remember when I first came here, it was almost all fish ponds and banana fields," said Felix Choi, founder and CEO of Hongrita, at the July opening of the Hhub, the first industrial park redevelopment project on Ma'an Island in Zhongshan's Cuiheng New District.

The Grade-A industrial complex, with over 125,000 square meters of floor space, targets tech firms in the low-altitude economy, smart equipment and high-end consumer electronics, and has attracted 23 upstream and downstream companies.

The park has also teamed up with the Hong Kong Productivity Council to set up a new-type industrial exhibition hall that regularly showcases latest achievements in such areas as AI, quantum computing, industrial 3D printing and digital twins, and is open to the public free of charge.

In 2013, a Hongrita delegation first visited this coastal industrial site. Over the past decade, the company has watched Cuiheng New District transform from fish ponds and mudflats into a modern industrial hub — while itself leaping from traditional precision manufacturing into tech and smart production.

Since settling in Zhongshan, Hongrita has sustained substantial R&D spending, allocating 4% to 5% of its annual revenue to tech innovation and smart upgrades, with over 150 million yuan invested in the past two years.

Choi said Hongrita will continue exploring strategic emerging industries, focusing on the low‑altitude economy and high-speed optical modules, aligning with Zhongshan's future industrial plans.
