According to statistics from Zhongshan Customs, in 2019 the total import and export value of Zhongshan was 238.72 billion yuan, a yearly increase of 1.9%. Exports totaled 192.92 billion yuan, increasing by 7.1%, and imports were 45.8 billion yuan, decreasing by 15.2%.

The annual imports and exports of general trade totaled 120.08 billion yuan, increasing by 6%, and the imports and exports of processing trade stood at 102.67 billion yuan, decreasing by 12.3%.

The imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises reached 133.55 billion yuan, decreasing by 7.5%; the imports and exports of private enterprises totaled 91.81 billion yuan, increasing by 19%; the imports and exports of state-owned enterprises was 13.36 billion yuan, increasing by 6%.

In 2019, the US was still Zhongshan's largest trading partner, but Zhongshan's imports and exports to it have declined.

Zhongshan's imports and exports to emerging markets such as Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa last year were 16.55 billion yuan, 9.65 billion yuan, and 5.52 billion yuan, increasing by 3.7%, 18.6%, and 34.2%, respectively. During the same period, the trade volume between Zhongshan and the countries along the "Belt and Road" reached 57.07 billion yuan, increasing by 6.3% from the previous year.

In 2019, Zhongshan exported 139.78 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, increasing by 6%, which accounts for 72.5% of the total export value of Zhongshan during the same period.
