On the morning of May 9, with the whistle from the arriving ship, Zhongshan Port, which had been silent all night, came to life.
Since April, the throughput capacity of Zhongshan Port's outbound wharf has been continuously rising, with a maximum of 1,218 containers being shipped a day, a new single-day record for this year. The total cargo throughput for the month was 40,676 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit), up 4.3% from the previous month.
Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, inbound and outbound ships as well as throughput of goods at Zhongshan Port's outbound wharf suffered a year-on-year decrease in the first quarter.
In order to help port enterprises within its jurisdiction, Zhongshan Port Customs that is subordinate to Gongbei Customs introduced 20 assistance measures to cope with the impact of the epidemic and promote the steady growth of foreign trade. At the same time, it has strongly supported the pilot operation of Zhongshan's "public water bus" between Zhongshan and Hong Kong.
