Greater Bay Area Zhongshan Development Forum held

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Zhongshan Development Forum, one of the highlights of the 2019 Zhongshan Trade and Investment Fair & Top Talent Networking, was held on the afternoon of March 28.

Several experts were invited to share their viewpoints: Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, a member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, President of Sun Wah Group (Hong Kong) and Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union; Antony Leung Kam-chung, former Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and current CEO of Nan Fung Group; Chen Xuanqing, former inspector of the Department of Regional Economy of the National Development and Reform Commission and current member of Academic Advisory Committee of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges; and Wang Fuqiang, researcher and Director of the Division of Industry of the CCIEE.

In his opening speech, Executive Vice Mayor Yang Wenlong said that Zhongshan will promote the Greater Bay Area development through five aspects.

First, Zhongshan will become a traffic hub in the west Greater Bay Area. The city plans to invest 15 million Yuan on transport infrastructure. The construction of key traffic channels will merge the east and west banks of the Pearl River and make Zhongshan an interactive development zone.

Next, Zhongshan will become a supporting region of the international technology innovation center and innovative technology transformation base. The city will adopt higher standards to build the Tsuihang Science City and make it a pivotal cooperative platform of the Greater Bay Area development.

Moreover, Zhongshan will become the world’s leading manufacture base and a modern service highland. Relying on 9 city-level industrial platforms, the city will focus on promoting healthcare, new information technology, and high-end equipment manufacture industries. Zhongshan will also actively create a national biomedical technology zone for international cooperation and innovation and build a producer service center of the west Greater Bay Area.

Furthermore, Zhongshan will become a quality city for living, employment, and tourism. The city will promote ecological protection, innovation and entrepreneurship for young people within the Greater Bay Area and construct the Sun Yat-sen Culture International Exchange Center.

Lastly, Zhongshan will further comprehensive and open cooperation. The city will develop a world-leading business environment.

During the keynote speech section, Jonathan Choi, Antony Leung and Wang Fuqiang discussed how Zhongshan should seize the historic opportunity to gain access to innovative resources and elements within the Greater Bay Area and integrate itself into the Guangdong- Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development after the development plan was announced.
