The Torch Zone of Zhongshan was invited to China Week Heidelberg 2019 recently held in Heidelberg, Germany. During the event, the Torch Zone Management Committee signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the China-Germany Science Park Holdings Limited. The Sino-German Zhongshan Torch Offshore Center for Innovation in Heidelberg was inaugurated that same day.

In 2016, Zhongshan was selected as one of the main cities for cooperation between China and Germany in the fields of biotechnology and medical economy. The city proposed to build a Sino-German (Zhongshan) Bio-pharmaceutical Industrial Park, centered on Sino-German cooperation in such areas as biological medicine, medical device, rehabilitation, pharmaceutical equipment, medical sciences and education, among others.

The Sino-German (Zhongshan) Bio-pharmaceutical Industrial Park covers an area of 7,100 mu (4,733,333 square meters). It recently presented 19 projects, including Akesobio, BioHealth Gene, the HKU-GDPU Bio-Pharmaceutical Innovation Platform, and more.
