In Torch Development Zone, there are nearly 100 auto parts enterprises in the Jonjee Auto Parts Industrial Park that cover an area of more than 2000 mu (about 1,333,333 square meters), one-third of which are direct suppliers for Honda, Toyota, General Motors and other global auto giants.

In June 2017, the park was officially awarded the title of China Auto Parts Manufacturing Base (Zhongshan Torch Development Zone), becoming one of the best planned and most concentrated auto parts bases in Guangdong Province.

With the emergence of new-energy automobile industry, Zhongshan has ushered in a new opportunity for the transformation and development of the automobile manufacturing industry.

In March 2016, Guangdong Xiaolan New-Energy Automobile Project was officially signed to be implemented in Banfu Town, Zhongshan. It has become the first new-energy automobile manufacturer in Zhongshan to attract investments, ending the long-term situation of "no whole car manufacturing" in the city.

In December 2017, Tsuihang New District introduced Beijing Idriverplus Technology Co Ltd, a leading company in the domestic unmanned vehicle industry, aiming to promote the industrialization of unmanned vehicles and to build an intelligent vehicle industry cluster in Zhongshan.

Zhongshan has experienced the transition from building a national manufacturing base for traditional automobile parts, to introducing and cultivating leading enterprises in new energy vehicle industry such as Xiaolan Car and Broad-Ocean Motor, and then to establishing the unmanned automobile industry. After accumulating rich experience in 20 years from zero to one and from traditional car-manufacturing to new car-manufacturing, Zhongshan automobile manufacturing industry is now conducting an industrial transformation and upgrading trilogy.
