In 1991, a Macao friend mentioned Zhongshan to Huang Jianhuang, who was operating a furniture factory in Taiwan. So, Huang Jianhuang came to Banfu Town, Zhongshan City for an inspection. Soon afterwards, he bought more than 40 mu (about 26,667 square meters) of land on a small hillside by the river and built a factory, which became today's Zhongshan Kaiwei Wood Industry Co Ltd later.

"Zhonshan is close to Macao and Hong Kong, with convenient transportation, and importantly the investment promotion service here is great," said Huang Jianhuang, chairman of Kaiwei.

"In the past, 100% of our products were exported to European and American countries. But after 2014, we gradually focus on the mainland market." Huang Jianhuang said that the company's products covered luxury styles, light luxury styles, fashionable styles, and simple styles, meeting the needs of a wide array of people of different ages.

"We have now become the partner of many well-known brands abroad and have established our own brands, becoming one of the most famous brands of American-style furniture in China." Huang Jianhuang said.

Under the leadership of Kaiwei, Zhongshan's American-style furniture production has made a qualitative leap. Banfu, a small town that used to be dominated by farming, now becomes home to more than 130 European and American-style furniture factories, large and small. In 2005, Banfu Town was recognized as the "Professional Town of American-style Furniture".
