April 26, 2021 marked the 21st World Intellectual Property Day. An activity was held in the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Library regarding the development of Zhongshan as a strong intellectual property city. Representatives from trade associations, law enforcement departments and the literature and art circle jointly read out proposals for intellectual property protection, scholars and legal experts gave interpretations of the laws and regulations, and company representatives shared their overseas experience regarding intellectual property protection.

In 2020, the number of granted patents in Zhongshan was 39,700, with a year-on-year growth of 18.87%. The number of valid registered trademarks exceeded 200,000, ranking 6th in Guangdong. Zhongshan boasts 90 national and provincial model companies regarding intellectual property protection, 46 China Patent Awards, and a total of 409 companies that have passed the national intellectual property management standards.

Zhongshan's intellectual property protection has been praised by the national and provincial governments. The Industrial Design Protection Research Report on Zhongshan's "Guzhen Model" marked WIPO's first patent protection research project in China; the "Zhongshan Model" of "government + bank + insurance + evaluation" intellectual property pledge financing has been approved by CNIPA and Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center and has been promoted throughout China.
