The Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province recently announced the list of provincial characteristic industrial parks for 2023. Zhongshan's Torch High-tech Development Zone (TDZ) is recognized as a characteristic industrial park for optoelectronics and electronic components.

Photoelectric information is one of Zhongshan's top 10 modern industrial clusters and one of TDZ's three pillar industries. Currently, Zhongshan's industry scale of optoelectronic information exceeds 80 billion yuan. TDZ is home to over 200 enterprises in the industry, with an industry scale of over 60 billion yuan.

In recent years, TDZ sees a booming development of the optoelectronics and electronic components industry. Efforts have been put in building the national-level China Electronics (Zhongshan) Base and introducing major innovation platforms such as the Zhongshan Institute of Changchun University of Science and Technology.

Earlier in March, the Bay Area Optics Valley was unveiled in TDZ, with a planned area of 20 square kilometers. It aims achieve an operation revenue of photoelectric information of over 100 billion yuan by the end of 2026, and double the figure within another 3 to 5 years by introducing over 500 high-tech enterprises in the industry.
