Four years ago on January 4, Zhongshan sounded the clarion call for the "low-efficiency industrial park redevelopment" campaign, launching reforms to tackle fragmented land use, industrial upgrading hurdles, and disjointed urban-rural development.

To date, Zhongshan has reorganized over 53,000 mu (3,533 hectares) of inefficient industrial land, supported 857 local enterprises in capacity expansion, and attracted 1,308 new businesses. The campaign is projected to drive nearly 200 billion yuan in new investment, doubling Zhongshan's 2024 industrial investment from 2021.

The campaign leads to a tenfold increase on average in collective property values. In 2024, rural residents' per capita disposable income hit 48,000 yuan, ranking second province-wide. Beyond economic gains, it has also advanced upstream water governance and fostered integrated "production-life-ecology" development.
