Zhongshan owns 3 protected GIPs
Updated: 2019-05-13    Source: Zhongshan Daily Large Medium Small Print

May 10 is the China Brand Day. According to the Zhongshan Municipal Market Supervision and Administration (ZSMMSA), 3 protected geographical indication products (GIPs) are launched in Zhongshan, that is, Huangpu Cured Meat, Zhongshan Crisped Grass Carp and Shenwan Pineapple. For the time being, Shiqi Baby Pigeon is also applied as GIP, followed by another 3 products.

The GIPs play an important role in inheriting traditional culture and expanding featured industries. In recent years, ZSMMSA has been actively motivating towns and districts to apply for GIP certification and 9 products are found to be consistent with the application requirements, including Zhongshan Shiqi Baby Pigeon, Zhongshan Shalan Chicken, Zhongshan Almond Cake, Xiaolan Centifolia Wine, Wugui Mountain Agarwood, Sanxiang Rice-flour Noodle, Shenwan Tylorrhynchus, Shaxi Herbal Tea and Xigu Shixia Longan.

Presently, the Guangdong Provincial Market Supervision and Administration has recommended Zhongshan Shiqi Baby Pigeon, Zhongshan Shalan Chicken and Zhongshan Almond Cake to the State Administration for the application of GIP protection, and has approved the establishment of GIP application agencies for Xiaolan Centifolia Wine, Wuhui Mountain Agarwood and Sanxiang Rice-Flour Noodle. Three more products are under planning.
