Salted food processing is a traditional industry in Huangpu. The famous "Guanjiawei Salted Mustard" in Huangpu's Zhaofeng Village has a history of nearly 100 years.
At present, salted mustard processing in Huangpu is now under specialized production. Villager Zhou Haosheng's mustard farm, in particular, sells 50,000 kilograms of the special food a year.
In the 1990s, Zhou Haosheng went home to make salted mustard, and gradually expanded production since then. He also researched for ways to improve the preparation of salted mustard, and built a cold storage to ensure that salted mustard could be sold throughout the year.
In order to expand the market, his son Zhou Jiangyong visited farmers' markets in Hunan and other places, and made "Guanjiawei Salted Mustard" sold all over the country.
Many Chinese and overseas Chinese people in Huangpu also bring salted mustard to foreign areas. "Overseas Chinese people from the United States, Canada, and Singapore brought our salted mustard to the local markets for sale, so that foreigners could taste a flavor of Huangpu," said Zhou Jiangyong.
Last year, Zhou Jiangyong also worked with a food processing factory to develop a small package of salted mustard snacks. He even worked with vendors who sell Huangpu specialty products, and added "Guanjiawei Salted Mustard" into Huangpu Preserved Product gift boxes. Now, Zhou Haosheng's mustard farm can produce 50,000 kilograms of dried salted mustard a year.
At present, there are seven or eight large-scale salted mustard production plants in Huangpu, whose production of dried salted mustard could exceed 500,000 kilograms per year.
