Domestic and overseas students and graduates gathered in NO.1 Middle School of Zhongshan on December 27 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of their Alma Mater.
"Welcome home!" Wang Xiwen, president of the school, greeted all alumni in his speech. A tolling ceremony was held on the same day in front of the bell tower - the school’s landmark building.
NO.1 Middle School of Zhongshan was the birthplace of civilization and education of ancient Xiangshan County. In 1692, county magistrate Kong Yanmei founded Tiecheng Free School, which was the predecessor of NO.1 Middle School of Zhongshan. In 1748, county magistrate Bao Yu changed the school name to "Fengshan Academy".
In 1908, the school launched modern educational system and was renamed "Fengshan Government Middle School". The founding year of the school was fixed on then. On February 13, 1985, the school was finally named "NO.1 Middle School of Zhongshan".
Up to now, NO.1 Middle School of Zhongshan has developed into a modern, large-scale and complete six-year high school with 138 classes and nearly 7,800 students and teachers.
