The opening ceremony of the Youth Cantonese Opera Training Class under the them "Inheriting Cantonese Opera" was held on the morning of July 21 at the 200-year-old Guangkuan Liu's Temple in Huangpu. A total of 60 primary school students have signed up for the course to experience the charm of Cantonese opera.

The training will cover the basic knowledge of Cantonese opera, such as the breathing and vocalization skills, the makeup techniques, and the performance patterns.

The teaching unit Guangdong Xiangshan Cantonese Opera Troupe introduced some basic knowledge of Cantonese opera at the opening ceremony. Some of its actors also performed some chapters of the classic drama “The Heroine Mulan” and showed some basic techniques such as spear movements and fan dance.

Cantonese opera, honored as the "Jumble Bead of South China", is a national intangible cultural heritage project and a treasure of Lingnan culture. It is popular among many Guangdong people and has a great influence in Chinese communities worldwide.
