The annual "Government-Paid Books for Citizens" ended a few days ago. The campaign lasted for about two months, with a total of 11,673 readers participating. Three million yuan as fund was used up for buying books.

This year's new project titled "Love Network Borrowing" attracted much attention of the citizens. This activity which kicked off on June 15 ended on August 12. One million yuan as fund for this activity was used up in two months. A total of 3,319 readers participated in this activity, with 24,193 books purchased.

Moreover, 8,354 readers took part in offline borrowing, with a total of 50,832 books been borrowed, or about 6 books per person. Among the books borrowed, literary works were at the top of the list, including China's four great classic novels, The Scholars, as well as foreign books such as Father and Son, Three Days to See, etc.

Compared with previous years, the duration of the campaign was significantly shortened but, data such as the number of participants and books borrowed both increased.

"Compared with 2018, the price limit for a single book has risen from 70 yuan to 200 yuan this year, and the publication date of books borrowed has been set from 2016 to present, thereby greatly expanding the range of books available to readers", said Liang Weikun, director of Editing Department of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Library.
