On the evening of April 23, the 18th Zhongshan Reading Month with the theme of "The fragrance of books embraces a prosperous society" commenced at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Library.

This year's Zhongshan Reading Month is composed of over 100 theme reading activities, such as "Books on building a prosperous society, "Reading and Sharing of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area", the "Seven Book Access" national reading popularization project, the 12th Zhongshan Book Fair & 2020 South China Book Festival, the "Love Reading" series of theme activities, the major theme book publishing plan, the promotion of digital reading, and the "literary giants book recommendation - Book Reading".

At the launching ceremony, 2019 Zhongshan's "National Reading Report" was also released for the first time. According to the survey, the average book collection in Zhongshan citizens' families is 75.08 books, and the average annual reading of interviewees is 14.07 books. Books on literature and art, economic management, and education are most welcomed by Zhongshan citizens. The average public expenditure on printed book is 280.4 yuan.

The average daily reading time of Zhongshan citizens is 100.11 minutes, with the peak reading hours lasting from 8 pm to 11 pm.

Awards were presented to the townships, units, and organizations that won the 2019 "scholarly Zhongshan" National Reading Advanced Work Unit, Innovation Project, and Excellent Reading Promotion Organization honors.
