Spring has arrived, and the Tuwei Rose in Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan is in full bloom.

The Tuwei Rose is said to have been introduced from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean during the Jiajing Era of the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the few rose varieties from ancient times still preserved. The flowering period of Tuwei Rose is around the Qingming Festival. Its color is a gorgeous pink, its shape is like a peony, and its fragrance is similar to other roses.

For hundreds of years, the Tuwei Rose has been used in various areas by Xiaolan people. Every year around the Qingming Festival, people will use the Tuwei Rose to make wine or seasonal food. In 2016, the traditional skills related to producing Xiaolan Tuwei Rose products were officially selected into the municipal intangible cultural heritage protection list.

In recent years, Xiaolan has actively promoted non-government organizations to set up the Xiaolan Tuwei Rose Professional Cooperation to expand planting areas and develop the Tuwei Rose farming industry.

In 2014, the first Tuwei Rose Cultural Festival was held in Xiaolan Town, which integrated various resources to enrich peoples' understanding of the Tuwei Rose culture.

The 2021 Xiaolan Tuwei Rose Culture Festival will kick off on March 13 at the Xiaolan Tuwei Rose Professional Cooperation. Seminars on "cosmetics and daily products" and "food and beverages" will be held on the same day. In addition, Tuwei Rose-related products will be displayed at the event, and on-site activities such as making Tuwei Rose wine, egg rolls, sugar and almond cakes will be held.
