Cantonese opera I Have a Date with Spring was staged days before at the Zhongshan Culture & Art Center. Adapted from the same-name film written by Raymond To and directed by Clifton Ko, the opera was performed by exceptional young actors and actresses from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. It made an exploration in the connotation of traditional Cantonese opera in a new age and in the promotion of culture and art exchange and cooperation within the Greater Bay Area.

The film I Have a Date with Spring premiered in Hong Kong in 1994. Set in the mid-20th century, the film depicts the story of four female singers including Yao Xiaodie who support each other and pursue love and dreams together amidst the highs and lows of life.

The Cantonese opera lasts about two hours. Huang Jiayu, head of Xiangshan Cantonese Opera Troupe, played the role of "Yao Xiaodie".
