A ceremony was held recently at the Zhongshan International Communication Center, marking that the interesting videos collected through the Amazing Zhongshan Food short video solicitation and promotion event would be released through overseas media and social platforms.
Leaders of relevant departments and organizations, outstanding short video creators, online celebrities, catering industry representatives, as well as representatives of English media agencies, such as GDToday, That's English Magazine and EN.ZSNEWS.CN, participated in the ceremony.
To better promote Zhongshan to the world and showcase its image as an ideal city for business, living and tourism, Zhongshan Internet Information Office and Zhongshan Foreign Affairs Bureau organized the Amazing Zhongshan Food short video solicitation and promotion event, encouraging the general public to tell beautiful Zhongshan stories around us through food.
The event started last September and ran through late February this year. It was carried out mainly on Zhongshan Plus and Douyin, and related topics were set up on Xiaohongshu, Weibo and other online platforms. Over 350 short videos were collected, with a total view count of nearly 800,000.
The entries showcase a diverse range of culinary delights, each employing distinct filming techniques. The participants included not only internet celebrities, foreigners, English experts, university teachers and students, but also primary and secondary school students. The creators eloquently express themselves in English in front of the camera, not only presenting the unique flavor of Zhongshan but also highlighting the city's high-level openness. Upon release on overseas platforms, the videos are expected to attract more attention from international friends and further enhance Zhongshan's overseas influence and reputation.
During the solicitation period, the sponsors, joined hands with relevant departments and towns (districts), organized a series of activities to encourage more people to take part in international communication. For instance, English major students from the UESTC Zhongshan Institute were invited to Tanbei Village in Xiaolan Town to introduce the distinctive crisped grass carp products in English. They also visited renowned food enterprises and restaurants, such as Dihuang Foods, Zhongshan Shuichu Group, Shiqilao and Xiangshan Jiayan to explore unique delicacies, and took part in a Mid-Autumn Festival activity held for Chinese and foreign friends.
Donald, an overseas sharer and outstanding video creator, is also a musician from New Zealand who has been living in Zhongshan for more than ten years. He expressed his love for Zhongshan cuisine at the ceremony. According to him, New Zealanders have simple eating habits. However, after arriving in Zhongshan, he has been captivated by the local cuisine. He enjoys exploring tasty dishes throughout the city and has tried almost all the delicacies mentioned in this event.
Zhang Weixiong, Chairman of the Shiqilao restaurant, believed the event has a novel form and holds special meaning. It provides an opportunity to promote renowned dishes and banquets of Zhongshan to the globe. "I hope that Zhongshan can continue to organize this event."
The sponsors stated that these outstanding videos will be recommended to domestic and international media platforms, including China Daily, Douyin, GDToday, That's English Magazine, EN.ZSNEWS.CN, HiZhongshan on WeChat and Zhongshan Overseas Chinese Journal, and will be posted through This is Zhongshan on overseas social media platforms. Zhongshan's international sister cities, international friendly organizations and overseas Chinese groups will also be invited to advertise Zhongshan food and promote traditional Zhongshan culture.
