A special exhibition, themed "Sailing Across the Lingding Ocean: 'Nanhai #1' and the Maritime Silk Road during the Song Dynasty", opened at Zhongshan Museum on July 5. Over 200 sets of precious artifacts from the "Nanhai #1" shipwreck and the Guangzhou area made their debut in Zhongshan, with the exhibition running through October 8.
The exhibition features theme zones that systematically explore Song Dynasty trade policies, maritime customs systems, export industries, navigation skills and shipping networks, offering visitors a comprehensive immersion into the splendor of the Maritime Silk Road in the Song Dynasty.
Dating back over 800 years, merchant vessel "Nanhai #1" carrying a treasure trove of goods sank off the coast of Guangdong. As China's first fully excavated Song Dynasty shipwreck, its discovery in 1987 captivated global attention.
To date, more than 180,000 artifacts, including ceramics, gold and silver ware, coins and daily utensils, have been recovered.
