The opening round of the 2026 Guangdong City Football Super League (GDSL, or Yuechao) regular season progressed on the evening of April 26, with Team Zhongshan (in red jerseys) traveling to face Team Zhaoqing.

Despite a determined away performance, Zhongshan succumbed to a 1-3 defeat. 

The match saw moments of resilience, notably in the second half when Chen Junjie netted a goal to temporarily reduce the deficit to 1-2.

The Zhongshan team will next host Team Guangzhou on May 3 in the second round.
