On November 25, a unique English teaching activity was held in Zhongshan Senior Cadres University: a group of lively and lovely primary school students served as teachers, and old cadres became the "students" who listened carefully. It turned out that 13 primary school students of the China (Hong Kong) English School were teaching the seniors how to use English for international daily communication.

Being a teacher for the elderly for the first time
At the beginning of the activity, the classroom was full of joy and laughter. Our little CHES teachers were full of spirits, and all the elders were anticipating the lessons with curiosity.
With the title "Travelling to America", James Huang shared with his students about American customs, tourist attractions and food. After class, James could not help feeling happy and proud: "It is so much fun to see that all those grandpas and grandmas have learned some knowledge from my lectures. It really makes me feel proud."
Next, Lu Yishan and Sophia introduced the common English used in the airport and a series of English expressions of Chinese food to senior students. During the communication between young and old, they were surprised to find that many of the seniors know a lot of English words. "For example, the seniors here taught me the English word for Baozi, which means steamed bun."
During group teaching, 13 primary students teachers lead their "senior students" to study together. With a variety of teaching methods, the teachers enlivened the class. The veteran cadres' enthusiasm for learning was fully stimulated, and they followed the teachers carefully to read the words and short sentences, also exchanged learning experience with each other from time to time. The learning atmosphere is warm and harmonious.
After class, three primary students teachers also performed magic tricks, speeches and songs for their students, receiving rounds of applause after another.

Veteran cadres students hope the "little teachers" come often
How could the senior cadres university have thought of having these elementary school students take classes?
Inheriting the Chinese nation's virtue of respecting the elderly is the obligation of traditional cultural education. During this year's Double Ninth Festival, some teachers and students of China (Hong Kong) English School carried out activities to respect the elderly at the Zhongshan Senior Cadre University. CHES students served as English teachers and performed wonderful programs for the elderly. They also shared the fun of learning English together. At the same time, the senior cadres there taught CHES students how to do paper cutting. The scene was warm and wonderful, leaving a deep impression on people from the senior cadre university.
Therefore, the university made an invitation to CHES, hoping that the school would give full play to its advantages as an English school and exchange English with the senior cadres.
"We are very happy to have this opportunity to learn English in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, and we hope that young teachers will come and visit often." Veteran cadres look forward to more opportunities for such exchanges in the future to bring the hearts of two generations closer.
