Huangpu is the birthplace of Cantonese sausage. The history of sausage-making in Huangpu dates as far back as 1886.  As of now, there are more than 100 cured meat production companies with over 60 varieties in the town. Huangpu is now the largest "Cantonese preserved products" production base in the country and accounts for more than 60% of the market share.

Huangpu has emerged renowned preserved food manufacturers such as Wing Yip, Taihe and Yinhua. "Huangpu Preserved Meat" has also been acknowledged as a "national protected geographical indication product".

"After preliminary investigations, there are only a few food companies with more than 100 years across China, and Wing Yip is one of them. We also visited Huangpu and its surrounding areas to record the unique local conditions and customs of Huangpu with camera," said the director Mu Bai.

At the opening ceremony on the same day, Huangpu also launched the large-scale filming activity themed "Exploring Huangpu Flavor". "We plan to spend a year in exploring Huangpu's local cuisine and the cultural stories behind," said Li Huajun, a member of the Huangpu Town Party Committee.
