The Pearl River Delta Duan Inkstone Exhibition Tour opened at the Zhongshan Culture Center on April 8.

The exhibition is sponsored by culture centers of 8 Pearl River Delta cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Jiangmen, Zhongshan and Huizhou. It is held to further strengthen the protection and inheritance of traditional handicrafts and promote the communication among inheritors of intangible cultural heritage projects.

The exquisite works exhibited were all made by renowned provincial and municipal intangible cultural heritage inheritors. These inkstones are delicate with vivid carvings, all of which are rare treasures.

The sponsors specially set up a live display of the Duan Inkstone making methods, so that Zhongshan citizens could have a more intuitive understanding of the production process.

Duan Inkstone production, a precious Chinese cultural icon, was selected into the first national intangible cultural heritage project list in 2006 and the first national directory of traditional crafts in 2018.
