The WBSC Baseball5 Youth Asia Cup 2023 ended in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 11, with China finishing in second place. Seven players of Team China are from Zhongshan Dongsheng Senior High School in Xiaolan Town.

Seven teams from Asia participated in the event. China ranked second with 5 wins and 1 loss in the round-robin, and lost 0-2 to Chinese Taipei in the final. South Korea claimed third place. The three teams each secured a place in the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup.

Dongsheng, Xiaolan is the hometown of Liang Fuchu, the "Father of Chinese Baseball". Promoted by Liang Fuchu's son Liang Youwen, baseball has become one of the most popular ball games in Dongsheng.

In 2016, first international standard baseball field in Zhongshan - the Pandas Youth Baseball Stadium was inaugurated, which hosted the 9th BFA U12 Baseball Championship in the same year. In 2017, Dongsheng was named "Zhongshan International Baseball Town" by the General Administration of Sport of China as the only baseball-themed town in China. In 2019, Dongsheng's second international standard baseball field - the Pandas Heritage Stadium was completed and put into use. In 2020, Dongsheng was selected as a training base for the Chinese junior baseball team (U12) by the Chinese Baseball Association.
