Zhongshan was hit by Typhoon Hato and Typhoon Pakhar in succession in only a couple of days, in which case residents' daily life were influenced. After the typhoons, more than 3,000 volunteers across the city took an active part in post-typhoon recovery works to help residents resume normal life.

For instance, Charity Weekly of Zhongshan Daily, together with Zhongshan Volunteer Federation, launched the activity of recruiting "love truck" drivers for cleaning fallen trees and branches blocking the ways. By the evening of August 28, up to 29 truck drivers have applied for this voluntary service.

Bad weather for days on end also had impacts on the elderly who had difficulty in walking. Since August 28, Zhongshan Volunteer Federation has started the charity program to visit the lonely old people and households with disabled persons. The Federation will recruit volunteers for this program from all districts and towns in the following days and to visit the needy people, hoping to help them through the "Love Store" and with the "Love Fund".
