Which town has the best water quality? And which has the worst? At the end of this year, all towns in Zhongshan will face a big “examination”. According to the work proposal on the ranking and information of the water quality of the towns in Zhongshan released by Zhongshan Environmental Protection Bureau, the list of towns with the best/worst water quality will be released at the end of the year. 

To ensure the completion of the water pollution control targets, Zhongshan plans to announce the list of 5 towns with good water quality and 5 with bad water quality every year from 2017 on. In addition to this, since 2018, Zhongshan will also publicize the list of 5 towns with greatest improvement in water quality and 5 with fewest. 

The work proposal shows that all rivers governed by each town will be included by the ranking list. Zhongshan Environmental Protection Bureau currently has started to monitor the water quality of all the rivers within Zhongshan. By selecting 5 indicators (ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, COD, oil and DO), the Bureau can calculate the water quality index of every river and the water quality index of all towns in Zhongshan.
