The Award Ceremony of the 2017 China’s Beautiful Villages Selection, which included prizes in “best ecology”, “livability”, “inheritance” and “social responsibility”, was held in Shanghai on December 17. Zhongshan’s Nanlan town was awarded “The Most Beautiful Rural Environment Prize” depending on its quality environment, living conditions and natural habitats. Nanlang was one of the fifteen villages (towns) nationwide and the only one province-wide to win the “best ecology” prize.
As one of the 38 “Guangdong Forestry Towns”, Nanlang has a 33.6% of forest coverage rate. It has 26km-long coastal line and a large area of wetland and mangrove forest. There are also 3 national key cultural relics protection units - Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Secondary School buildings group and Chen’s Ancestral Temple - and Zhongshan’s only one 5A Tourism Region in the town.
“As planned, the township government is about to invest more than 100 million yuan on developing Nanlang into a ‘Forestry Town’ featuring culture tourism, rural tourism, leisure tourism and sightseeing.” Said Lin Jinlun, Member of the Party Committee of Nanlang.
