The provincial family planning assessment team visited Zhongshan days before and investigated the city’s implementation of the family planning object management liability system last year.

In 2017, approximately 52,000 permanent residents were born in Zhongshan, with 16.1‰ birth rate and 13.1‰ natural growth rate. The policy fertility rate reached 98.6%, while the sex ratio at birth was 107.

Reportedly, last year, 3 birth defect intervention centers were built in the city, which has provided free premarital medical examination and pre-pregnancy health examination services for 13.7 thousand couples and free prenatal screening service for 70.7 thousand pregnant women. A total of 146 thousand citizens joined family planning insurance, with total premium of 20.3 million yuan. In 2017 the city added two provincial youth health education program stations and held 281 youth health education seminars, in which more than 50 thousand people have participated. Zhongshan Health and Family Planning Bureau was awarded the “National Advanced Unit of Women and Children’s Rights Protection”, while Zhongshan Family Planning Association was awarded the “2017 Guangdong Outstanding Contribution and Publicity Service Award of Family Planning Insurance Work”.
